How do I choose a LED lamp for my workshop?

Efficient and functional workshop equipment is essential. It not only minimises the risk of a failure, but it also makes do-it-yourself work more enjoyable. And efficient lighting is an essential component of any workshop. How to choose the right one? The answer is given below.

The first thing you do after you enter a workshop is turning on the light, mainly because these are rooms with limited natural light. In such conditions it is best to use LED lamps. Why such lamps? Because they ensure lower power consumption and their life is much longer than in the case of traditional lamps. However, the type of lighting is only one of the elements worth paying attention to when buying a lamp. There are a number of other features which should be on the list of requirements for both professional and amateur users.

A good lamp supports your work

Before starting the first repairs in your workshop it is worth paying attention to creating a comfortable workplace. Precise manual work or major car repairs require strong lighting to achieve satisfactory results. The portability of the lamp or its resistance to damage is also important. The multitude of offers available on the market does not make the choice any easier, so it is worth creating a checklist before the purchase, which will facilitate the selection of a particular LED lamp for your garage or workshop.

Power - the basic criterion for selecting a lamp. The higher the power, the more effectively it illuminates the workplace. It is good if the lamp is equipped with several light bulbs, preferably COB LEDs, because it emits a bright light beam. In workshop conditions, lamps with a power of more than 500 lumens, such as TS1903, are best suited.

Resistance -  a workshop lamp is different from traditional lamps and torches. Above all, because it is subjected to extreme challenges that classic lighting devices would not tolerate. High levels of dust, risk of water damage or falls and shocks are just some of the dangers that lurk in every workshop. Therefore, a garage lamp should be resistant to external forces.

Wireless operation - workshop lamps can be divided into two categories: fixed and portable. The first group is usually mounted under the ceiling or above the workbench and usually its position is never changed again. Hand-held lamps are used to accurately illuminate a specific component that may not be possible to be removed, for example, car engine parts. Thanks to its wireless design, a hand lamp is not limited by a cable, so it can illuminate the front of the car and be taken to the rear in a second. An alternative to wireless lamps are lamps with a several-metre cable.

Working time - when talking about a portable workshop light, its battery capacity and working time may not be overlooked. The higher the battery’s capacity, the longer working hours without charging. The value guaranteeing comfortable use is 2000mAh. Such capacity can support workshop repairs even all day long, without access to power supply.

Portability - garage repairs require a flexible approach and equipment for special tasks. Defects in hard-to-reach areas can only be eliminated with the right tools. Such as a lamp with a movable housing. The foldable structure enables precise illumination of hard-to-reach areas and convenient adjustment of the light angle.

LED bulbs or COB LED lights?

The use of LED lighting in lamps and torches is no longer surprising. The predominance of diodes over traditional light bulbs has made the latter hard to be found in modern devices. The history of COB LEDs, which replace traditional LEDs, begins to take a similar course. How do they differ? First of all, the number of diodes per chip. COB LED lights contain at least 9 diodes on each chip, while with the traditional LEDs – not more than 1. Thanks to this, COB LED lights have much better lumen density, which in turn affects light performance.

TS1903 workshop lamp

Looking for a lamp that has all the features mentioned above, it is impossible not to consider the professional TS1903 workshop lamp. Equipped with three separate light modules with COB LED bulbs, it guarantees comfortable illumination of even the most difficult nooks and crannies with 540 lumens of light. The portable and movable structure and built-in magnets at the base allow the lamp to be attached anywhere and at any angle or pitch, making precise work possible even under the hood. The TS1903 battery power supply is also important, as the 2600mAh battery guarantees 4.5 hours of uninterrupted operation away from any power source. And thanks to the built-in USB port, the device can also act as a power bank if there is no smartphone charger in the workshop.

Multi-tasking first of all

The times when lamps were standing on the desk connected to the socket are a forgotten past by now. The current workshop lighting equipped with additional functions enables its comfortable use in all conditions. Therefore, when choosing a LED light for your garage or workshop, it is best to define your expectations first, then look for the one that will meet all of them.
